Following the collapse of the original stone bridge in the floods of 12 October 2007, a new bridge offering less resistance to the future flow of floodwater was built. Mario Flores, the Regional Minister of Infrastructures and Transport opened the bridge on 2 August 2008. In recognition of its position on the Greenwich Meridian, it is named ‘Pont del Meridià’.
