One of a pair of similar obelisks. The other is to the north. The crash barrier directly in front of the obelisk is of a later date. Large brown signs placed either side of the obelisk on the side of the road (at a distance of about 50 and 70 metres) are there to indicate the presence of the obelisk to passing motorists. The 1 May 2016 image set shows the one to the south. The one to the north is identical except for the fact that the words Nord (north), Sud (south), Oest (west) and Est (east) are reversed. Both signs give the latitude as: 40º07’01”.
