The mark was erected as a result of suggestions from users of the South Downs Way. A wooden fingerpost was chosen to fit in with the style of the rest of the signage on the Sussex part of the route. Like the other signs along the trail, it is made of Oak. Other options were considered, but rejected on grounds of costs and the suitability of the site given its agricultural nature.
