A line was first marked across The Avenue for the London Marathon in 1984 using 3M tape. A more permanent marking in the form of a painted white line followed. This was replaced c.2000 by the present granite setts. The cycle path was moved from the western pavement to the eastern one in November 2010 following the death of a cyclist in 2007. In the spring of 2018, the northern edge of the northern footway was cut back and the cleared area turfed over, with the joint aim of both improving the Park’s appearance and increasing the aeration of the roots of the trees set into it. The 2018 image set captures this work in progress.
