The point where the Meridian crosses the roads of East Hertfordshire was marked on many of them with bollards in 1984. This particular bollard is of a different design to the others, suggesting that this site, which is on the border with North Hertfordshire, was, like the site on East Hertfordshire’s southern border, originally omitted. At the time of the Millennium, a new series of markings took place, but this time with oak trees. The choice of locations did not depend on whether the Meridian had been previously marked, but only on the availability of a suitable planting site.
