Tim Gane (4 Dec 1999).One of two marks in the UK known to have been deliberately placed on the WGS84 Meridian (a former naval man was involved). The decision to mark the Meridian with a sundial was probably influenced by the neighbouring Meridian sundial in Comberton (to the north). Made from Sherwood Green Granite Stone, it was supplied by Ivett & Reed of 615 Newmarket Road, Cambridge, and paid for by Meldreth Parish Council. The total cost was £1,700.99. It was unveiled on 4 December 1999 by Sir Martin Rees (now Lord Rees), who later unveiled the mark in the neighbouring village of Orwell. The sundial features on the geocoin issued in November 2009 by the Geocoin club.
