This oak tree (then a mere sapling) was planted to celebrate the opening of ‘The Meridian School’ in 1968. Originally styled Comberton Primary School, the school actually served several villages. At the Headmaster’s suggestion, the governors of the time decided to give it a neutral name. The Meridian School was chosen in recognition of the fact that the Meridian passes through three of the four villages served by the school. The tree, which was planted by the governor who suggested the name, is located more or less at the centre of the school’s catchment area. The sundial beneath it was added in 1984.
